Basically there are two kinds of fillings, silver (amalgam) and white (composite).

We try to do white fillings only but sometimes, especially in the back of the mouth where it is difficult to keep teeth clean and dry a silver filling is the better option. Also, if the gums are prone to bleeding we prefer to use silver fillings.
